May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Christian Based Selling

The nature of our work is highly competitive which is taxing to the human spirit.  When a prospective client is evaluating vendors the buyer will develop a list of potential vendors and bring them in for a meeting to then narrow the field to a select few for final rounds.  You can bet that the sales representative from each vendor needs to win the deal.  The stakes are high for all vendors involved.

​There is no perfect solution.  Each vendor will bring similar but different strengths and weaknesses to the table.   We need to qualify the essential needs of the client to ensure the opportunity is worth the investment of time.  Identifying the essential needs is an art because the prospective client may not be certain what is most important to them yet.  As they meet with vendors and learn more about the project the essential needs may shift.  Therefore it is important to maintain an open channel of communication through which you can ask if their needs/priorities have changed etc.      

As Christians we know the simple joy and peace of knowing Christ through which we abound in hope.  Ask yourself, how important is hope in sales?  Does hope influence outcomes?  

We all know the phrase hope is not a strategy.  We can't pursue a deal with blind hope for which our solution is not a good fit.  However, hope is an essential ingredient to success.       

Hope fuels our attitude about life and work.  If we tell ourselves we probably won't win a deal, are we going to show up in a manner that will convince the prospective client to select us?   There is no perfect solution!  We need to sell our solution.
