Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

The point of this blog is to explore the guidance the Bible provides on how to succeed.   Over the last 20 weeks we have explored the scripture that gives us both direct and indirect insight on how to achieve abundance.

Here is the scripture that started my investigation of this theme: 

Proverbs 14:23 In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.

As a sales professional, we know there are those who talk a big game but don't do the hard work of prospecting, qualifying properly or formulating a winning sales strategy.   You don't have to be a Christian to see the truth in this verse.  Any person can put this advice to good use: talk is cheap, hard work makes it happen!  

Then there is scripture such as Psalm 37:4.  It tells us to "Delight ourselves in the Lord."  This cannot be faked for the purpose of getting "the desires of your heart."  The Lord wants us to fall in love with Him--to enjoy His goodness and grace, to be thankful for the blessings, both material and non-material, in our lives.  When we do this He will give us the desires of our hearts.      

When we have a genuine relationship with the Lord we will experience more blessings.  But the true blessing is our relationship with the Lord, not the deals we win and the money we earn.  The success of our endeavors will come as a byproduct of our spiritual growth.  The desire of our heart must be pure in its intent.
