Proverbs 19:17

Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.

Christian Based Sales

When we are blessed with financial gain, we must remember that there are many who are less fortunate.

Are you taking the opportunity to experience the joy of giving?

Ecclesiastes 5:10

Ecclesiastes 5:10

He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.

Christian Based Selling

We work in a profession that revolves around money.  We must drive revenue for our company, we negotiate deals with clients and we get paid commissions.  We are paid handsomely for our success.

The conventional belief of sales management is that they want sales people who are driven by material success.  However, as Christians, if we allow our focus to become money then we grow distant from God.  The love of money can happen to those with a lack thereof as well as those with abundance.

We Christians need to get the job done just like our money driven competitors.   As Christian based sales professionals, we need to put our focus on helping prospective clients solve their problems.  When our motive is centered on serving others we actually become better and more effective in our work.  When we are not pushing our agenda on a prospective client we earn the opportunity to become a trusted advisor.  The trust we build with prospective clients will lead to lasting partnerships.

When we are blessed with strong earnings let us maintain a grateful heart.  We need to guard against allowing our material circumstances to affect our self identity.   We need to define ourselves through our relationship with Jesus Christ and in our spiritual walk.

On what do you base your identity?

John 15:5

"I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."

Christian Based Selling

Yesterday we reflected on the importance of remaining humble in success.  Our success is not our own but a blessing from the Lord.

Do you have a grateful heart?

James 4:6

James 4:6

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Christian Based Selling:

When we find great success in sales we are met with financial reward and are often praised within our organization.  If we do not guard against it, this can lead to an overinflated view of ourselves.  It is human nature to forget about all those prayers that preceded the close of the big deal and instead pat yourself on the back for being such a great salesperson.

Humble confidence is good.  We do not want to walk into meetings (internal or external) lacking confidence in our ability to drive a successful outcome.  However, if we become arrogant, our pride will distance us from God and will rub most prospects and colleagues the wrong way.

Let's maintain a consistent humble confidence that is  independent of current circumstances, whether those be high or low.

How do you keep a level head when things are rocking and rolling?

Matthew 17:20

Matthew 17:20

He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Christian Based Selling:

In sales, we must move mountains.  When we believe we will win the big deal, we show up differently.  However, if you've had some tough losses, your confidence can be affected.   The important take away from a loss is to understand why you lost.  Should you have been in the deal?  Did your solution lack a key attribute?  What could have been done differently to drive a victory?

As Christians we need to remember to keep the faith and good things will come.  We can and will move mountains!   When we believe we put every bit of critical thinking and planning into the pursuit because we know it is worth our time to do so.  It is important to understand that we need to do the work--God empowers us to move the mountain!

What mountain do you need to move?
