Christian Based Selling:
If we allow our success to go to our head then we are not living our Christian values. Our arrogance will distance us from God and most likely from our colleagues, friends and family. As I've shared in previous posts, a sales career will inevitably have highs and lows. I have found it important to enjoy your successful periods but never to lose your sense of urgency about finding and closing the next deal. The organization may "exalt" you for your success--don't buy into the hype and be sure to credit your pursuit team colleagues who were undoubtably critical to the victory. We need to be consistent in the focus and passion we bring to what needs to be done each day no matter if sales are up or down. We must always be thankful to God for our success. What things do you do to remain humble when the revenue is rolling in? Christian Based Selling:
We get emotionally attached to deals we want to win. We fight to keep our job when not enough deals have gone our way despite our best efforts. As sales professionals we walk a high wire act filled with both risk and reward. It is easy to feel that there is no safety net below us. However, if we trust in the Lord, work hard and honor Jesus in our words and actions then we are on His path for us. How can we worry about the road ahead if we put our trust in God? Since I gave my life to Christ just six years ago I've learned to let go and let God lead. Shortly thereafter he removed a wife (divorce) and a job from my life. I felt my life was crumbling but I did not forsake God. I actually would talk to and laugh with God saying, "Really?! This is what you want for me???" I had thought by turning my life over to Him that He would fix things as I wanted them to be. It was a difficult time but my world did not cease to exist and I was excited that God was in the driver's seat. It didn't matter what I thought of His plan for me, I was happy to be walking with Him for the first time in my life. Soon my life blossomed in new ways both professionally and personally. In hindsight I see that those changes needed to occur for me to evolve in the ways I needed. The journey continues and I'm filled with a passion for life and work like never before.
